One of the most vivid memories you will
have of your college days can be listed in almost a prescribed format with some
hilarious entries sprinkled for keeping the humour alive in all the awkwardness.
It is inevitable for these instances to take place while you are in college and
hear us when we say You Will Remember Them – the orientation program or
fresher’s week at college, meeting your roommates parents (*cough cough*
awkward *cough cough*), seeing your college crush for the first time while at
the library or cafeteria, and tasting your first “mess meal” (careful not to
throw up).
While college freshers weeks vary from one
college to another, but the gist of it remains the same; there are a bunch of
event or ‘fun’ games that try too hard to push a roomful of awkward some-teen
year olds or some twenty-year olds into becoming instant best friends. There
are those organized lunches where the one in-charge of distributing the special
college fresher’s party feast is always worked up trying to keep count of those
veg and non-veg and soon enough your teary mom and straight-faced dad leave you
to fend for yourself while leaving behind a years’ worth of toiletries supply. You
look over to the stranger in the opposite bed having the same serious face
(partly almost about to cry and partly excited to have found independence), and
you realize in a cinematic way that this is IT.
Here are a few things you can expect to happen at your college freshers’ week:
In
spirit of the Kolkata Amity fresher’s week, YUP Card has taken a step forwards
to walk an extra mile in the shoes of college freshman. Not only are we
offering a 5 day 5 offers packed schedule in celebration for the newly joining
Kolkata Amitians, but we have also decided to help new college goers settle at
this new environment with this preparatory list of common things they can
expect.
You will forget to pack some essentials!
This is not your usual holiday packing list
wherein you pack some essentials within the one night before you leave for your
trip into a rucksack and groggily walk into that early morning car ride to the
airport/station.
Packing for a year away from home at a new
home can be a daunting task and you are bound to forget some essentials. And
when you forget your favourite coffee mug that was your BFF’s gift to you, it
may get hard to stop those bubbling tears!
But wait, instead of seeing this as a
moment of loss, look at it as a new chance of making new friends. When you
forget to pack an essential ask your dorm mates if they can help. This is a
great chance to strike up a conversation.
Staying in your room!
With all the strangers wandering about
around your dorm it may seem tempting to stay put in your cosy bed. But we
suggest you take a leap of faith forward and shake off your awkwardness in
trying to make a conversation. Remember everyone else is feeling as lost and
insecure as you are in this new place. So, you already have a major common
ground amongst you, use that to socialize and start making new friends.
If you are new to Kolkata, then we have got
news for you. You will have a long list of places to eat or hangout and hookah
parlours and pubs to let loose college style in the city. Check out the YUP
Freshers Week list of places that we have covered in the city especially for
students of Amity University Kolkata and give them a try. Skip those organized,
awkward college mess lunches or those awkward meals with your roommates’
parents and go out on your own to some of the hippest hangs in Kolkata.
Pose for your college ID:
Here is some news for college freshers who
will have their picture taken for college ID. This is kind of the way driving
license picture are taken. The cameraman does not care how you will look in the
picture that will be your identity for the next 4 to 5 years. But you know that
you will have only opportunity so, do as we say – wipe off your sweat moustache
and one on your forehead, brush your hair and make sure your mascara is not on
your cheeks instead of your eyes!
And last but not the least, never shop when you are hungry!
It may seem like a great way to save money
to only go shopping after you have left your refrigerator or shelves empty. But
that means you will be hungry when you prepare your shopping list. But shopping
in a hungry stomach will make you much more prone to impulse shopping of items
that you do not actually need. So, regardless of how busy your fresher’s week
may be prepare a shopping list well in advance before you run out.
Now that we have got that covered, if you
are looking for nifty student offers in Kolkata, get your hands on a YUP Card and enjoy year long supply of
unlimited discounts at cafes and restaurants around Kolkata. Check out our list
of college student deals at our
website.
